McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act and ESEA Title I Homeless

Children and youth who do not have a fixed, regular, or adequate night time residence must have equal access to the same level of education as other children and youth do.

Are you sharing the housing of other persons due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason?

First Step
The linked Application/Verification form is designed to assist the school to determine if the child or youth meets the definition to be eligible for rights and services under McKinney-Vento Act. Please download and complete the form or ask for a form from school secretary or receptionist. Please answer as many of the questions as you can and return the form.

If the child or youth meets the definition for services under McKinney-Vento, the school will
1) immediately enroll her/him; the school will help to collect necessary enrollment records or other documentation.
2) the student can stay at SFIS even if parents/guardians find other living arrangements outside the local area, except when a parent or guardian waives that right.
3) the student is eligible for transportation services
4) the student will be eligible for free meals under the school nutrition program.
5) the student is eligible for any educational services for which the child meets the eligibility criteria, such as education programs for children with disabilities, or with limited English proficiency, programs in vocational and technical education, programs in Gifted & Talented.
